Supernatural America Haunted Ohio My Investigations

See More articles From DagnyRose_VonDetton

I do a lot of writing and researching in the paranormal field as most like to call it. I have been to many places throughout the United States and Canada to do such research. I have found at least some truth to most of the legends that surround the "haunted places." OK now I am going to tell you about some of my most memorable "supernatural" experiences. These are all true stories and I have witnessed them first hand.

I start with Ohio because that's where I live now. In October of 2007 I traveled to Beaver Creek, Ohio where I visited the now ghost town of Spruceville. There are many sites there that are claimed to be haunted such as: Gretchen's Lock, Hambleton Mill and the nearby bridge as well as another abandoned building. There is said to be a lot of deaths surrounding this town. The stories include the death of Gretchen Gill, the suicide of Esther Hale, and the death of a former FBI's most wanted Pretty Boy Floyd. We first traveled to Gretchen's lock. It is said that her ghost is only seen on the anniversary of her death but my experience says that that's not completely true. In order to get to the lock you need to walk about a 1/2 mile along a trail located off a campsite near Spruceville Road. The entire trail is quite creepy and very deserted. We arrived around 4pm so that we would have some light to look around a bit. As night fall came upon us the area became deathly silent. At approximately 10:42 PM we heard what sounded like a moan coming from the south of us. There were only 5 of us and we were all huddled together and none of us had made a sound for at least 15 minutes prior to the moan. I cannot prove that it was the ghost of Gretchen but there was no one else around for miles. The next day we ventured to Hambleton Mill. It is said that a Quaker priest haunts this building and other say it is the ghost of Esther Hale. We were there from 1pm until 8pm and experienced no ghostly activity. I also shot several pictures with my digital camera and had nothing abnormal in the shots. At 8:15 pm we went to the nearby bridge that is also said to be haunted by Esther Hale. There were some odd sounds but nothing that would lead any of us to believe that she was there. Once again I took many photos and found nothing unusual. We went to the farm where Pretty Boy Floyd was shot and killed and found some pretty creepy things inside but he is buried in Oklahoma so I didn't really expect to see or hear much. It was just a very old farm with a few very old things.

Bloody Mary is a widely known urban legend. I went to the site of Bloody Mary at Lake Erie around the Sandusky Bay. This is not the legend of Mary Worth where you say Bloody Mary in the mirror 13 times in hopes of seeing her spirit. She is said to live below the waters. The place is quite eerie not pun intended. We arrived about 7pm on November 30, 2006. It was dark at this time so we had to be careful not to fall in the lake. It is said that she emerges from the water at night and wanders the shore looking for young women in which she takes their body parts to replace the rotting ones on her doll. We all heard and saw nothing but I did get a few photos with my digital camera that had little blue specs in them. Being November 30 there are certainly no mosquitoes or other little summer bugs flying around. I am still investigating these photos.

On January 1st, 2007 me and my crew went just a few miles from home to visit Tinkers Creek Cemetery. As kids many of us walked through this cemetery to a ravine which had a vine we would swing on. When I found out about its history recently I had to come here and investigate. We were always fascinated by the headstones though many illegible some are still readable and dated back to the 1700s and 1800s. In the Northwest area of the cemetery lies a circle of headstones that people say are in the pattern of a pentagon. Through close observation I conclude that no such pattern exists. It is possible that some time ago it did and it is now covered up by grass and dirt. I wasn't about to start digging up the ground to find out I'm quite superstitious. This is a very large cemetery located off Tinkers Creek Road. You have to park and travel about a 1/2 mile up a trail to find it if you don't know what you are looking for you'll pass it up because it is not visible from the road at all. There is also a nearby by farm that is said to be haunted. It was said to owned by Edmund Gleeson and is situated near the intersection of Tinkers Creek Road and Canal Road. Both the house and the farm are visible from the street. The barn is the site of a true suicide attempt in 2002. A young mans body was found hanging inside the barn. The cemetery and barn showed us no paranormal activity the house on the other hand did. There was a light on in an upstairs window. We could not get into the house and did not attempt to break in to find the source of the light. It could have been squatters. Locals do claim to see a light that goes on and off in the upstairs window and this was reported after we saw the light. I am currently trying to get in touch with someone that can get me inside the house and barn. I took several digital camera pictures but it was a hazily day so the photos were a little manipulated by mother nature. Some had a few odd things in them but that could be small rain drops or dust.

In February of 2007 we visited the Cleveland Agora Theatre. We have all been there several times for concerts and such and didn't know of the ghostly experiences until last year. We were given a tour and this is what we found. There is said to be a man in a yellow raincoat that haunts the theatre. Employees and attendees claim to have seen this man on several occasions on the balconies and the catwalk. We took photos in both places. The balcony photos showed us nothing. The catwalk photos on the other hand contained "orbs" was is dust or was the man in the yellow raincoat trying to reveal his presence to us? We then went to the basement which holds a lounge and a room where Marilyn Manson used to actually store his stuff. The basement is very chilling and dark. I can't see much relaxing going on in the lounge room. When on the main balcony it seemed that a door locked and unlocked itself but there is no proof of that we heard the sound but didn't actually see anything. An exorcism was performed last year by Psychic Sonya and they say that the supernatural experience has toned down but not completely disappeared.

My findings suggest that these places may very well be haunted. Paranormal activity is hard to distinguish and takes a trained eye and ear. Neither my friends or I are professionals when it comes to supernatural or paranormal activity. Everything that happened when we were visiting these sites could have been sheer coincidence. I guess it depends on your belief and how you would interpret the things we heard and witnessed. We believe these findings to be supernatural do you?

There are many more articles to come on places we visit so keep checking back for the latest investigated haunting you never know it may be in your own backyard.
