Photography Tips and Tricks
The wave of digital photography has hit the shores of even the earliest age of kids. What made this particular hobby so much popular now than the years before? Well, that’s a good question to ask. I myself wasn’t aware of this until I bought my first digital camera. Yes, it’s just a digital camera but then you realize that even though it is more expensive than a normal film camera, your costs will stop there because there is no film and everything is digital.
A lot of people have jumped into the wave and surfed their way into this hobby. A lot of digital SLR cameras and the simple point and shoot cameras are now available everywhere and at prices that go down every now and then. Because of this I have decided to write a blog for aspiring photorgraphers and for those who just want their casual shooting to be better.
I have been reading tutorials and sites about this topic for a couple of months now and towards the end of this post you’ll find various resources that you can check out to further your photography knowledge.
I’m not a pro but these tips helped a lot in taking my photos to the next level. Here are some of the tips and tricks that I learned in my site browsing.
1) Composition is very important to get your photos to the next level. Most of the people shoot with their subjects in the middle of the frame. For casual shooting, to make your photos more dramatic, place your subject off center. Try this and you’ll see a difference.
2) Connected to the first tip is the “Rule of Thirds”. This phrase means that you would have to imagine your camera’s screen to have grids on it. Divide the screen into 9 equal parts. To make that shot more out of the ordinary, place your subject on the lines of the grid. For example, in shooting a sunset, you would like to place the horizon off center and patterned on the first or the second horizontal imaginary grid.
3) Have you ever seen a picture you think is so boring and flat? Well I have, a lot of times and most of them are my shots. Well there is a remedy to this. In photography there is such a thing as background and foreground. If you are taking a picture of your pet in the garden, your pet is the foreground and the flowers at the back is the background. Most pictures appear to be flat because they usually don’t have a foreground to assess how far the distant object or scene is. So the next time you take a sunset or a mountain range shot, make sure to include something in the foreground like a tree that is near you or a light post or a person. This will prevent your pictures looking flat and boring.
4) The next tip is something that you must practice doing. Most of the shots that we look at were only taken at 1 angle and that is the photographer in front. To make your photos look more interesting, you would have to walk around your subject and find some interesting angles you can take shots of. Most buildings are great when shot from below aiming your camera up. Great shots of people can be taken from above them while they’re looking up at you. You can see the depth in the picture making it really interesting.
5) Make sure you read your camera’s manual and you’ll discover a lot of different things. Don’t only shoot in auto mode. Also try the other modes in your camera and you’ll see the difference.
Interesting pictures are not only produced or taken with expensive cameras. It’s not with the camera, it’s with the one taking the picture. So what are you waiting for, shoot away and stun your friends the next time they see your pictures.
Here are some of the sites that can help you further in your quest to become a photographer. A good one at that!
