Building Up Backlinks through Article
Marketing
If you are a Web site owner, you would probably have heard that article
marketing is an effective way of pushing up your search engine rankings and
increasing traffic to your Web site. Unlike other Web site promotion methods,
you can start an article marketing campaign at almost zero cost. Therefore,
article marketing is fast becoming the number one choice for promoting a Web
site. To understand how article marketing helps you develop a backlink network,
you must first be aware of how article marketing works.
Article marketing is a form of advertising in which you write short,
informative articles related to your business and submit them to article
directories. An article directory is an online database of articles, categorized
by subject. It literally has thousands of articles, ranging from
self-improvement to advertising. Publishers such as Webzine owners and bloggers
can look for relevant articles and use them on their own Web sites for free.
So how does this help you? Each article you submit to the article directory
contains a signature box after the concluding paragraph. You can use the
signature box to write a couple of sentences about you and your products. You
can also invite readers to visit your Web site by providing the complete URL of
your Web site in the signature box. Publishers who use articles from the article
directory replicate the signature box exactly as it is on their own Web sites.
So if publishers select your article, they are in effect providing you
completely free backlinks from their Web sites. These backlinks not only provide
exposure to your Web site but also help drive traffic to your Web site.
Let’s look at an example to understand how you can build a backlink network
using article marketing. Suppose you have a Web site for selling jewelry. You
write articles on topics such as “Latest Trends in Jewelry,” “Coordinating
Accessories,” and “What to Wear on Your Wedding Day.” You then use the signature
box at the end of each article to include a backlink to your Web site. Now
suppose each of these 3 articles is picked by 10 publishers who use them on
their own fashion or women-based Web sites. That's 30 free backlinks from a
single article directory. Now suppose you submit the 3 articles after a little
modification to 10 other directories. Now, calculate the number of total
backlinks you acquire if you get the similar response in these directories. You
are right. That's a total of 330 backlinks based on the same 3 articles. And you
have not even included the backlinks from the article directories themselves.
With each article you write, the number of backlinks just keeps on growing.
Obviously, with this kind of growth in backlinks, there is a much higher chance
of readers clicking through to your Web site. In addition, most search engines
take number of backlinks into account when determining your position on their
search results. So, the higher the number of backlinks you get through article
marketing, the better will be your search engine position.
Article marketing is an effective and inexpensive way of building backlinks
to your Web site and attracting more traffic. Perhaps, the best part of using
article marketing is that it doesn’t cost you anything but your time.
