The 77th Season of Metropolitan Opera Broadcasts will open with the performance of a French Opera, Iphigénie en Tauride on Saturday, December 8th. The broadcast begins at 1:30pm (Eastern Time). This year, the performances will continue to be aired over the Toll-Brothers-Metropolitan Opera International Radio Network through May 3rd. Announcer Margaret Juntwait returns for her 4th season of hosting these broadcasts.
Among the 20 live broadcasts that will be aired include Romeo (Gounod), War and Peace (Prokofiev), Hansel and Gretel (Humperdinck), The Barber of Seville (Rossini), and Carmen (Bizet).
While there many options for opera enthusiasts to listen to the broadcasts, there certain areas of the North America and abroad, where the loss of public and commercial classical/fine arts radio stations makes this a little more challenging.
To obtain complete performance information, go to the Metropolitan Opera website (http://operainfo.org/). There is also a “station finder” feature that will guide you as to the location of stations that are broadcasting and streaming the broadcasts, including Latin America, Europe, and the Pacific Rim.
